Speed Sculpt - 009 - Sci-Fi Doo-Hicky - Hard Surface Greeblets

So this is the culmination of last weeks creation of custom stamps and tools.

I made a couple of dozen, screws, bolts, panels and general greebles, then made around about a dozen new brushes and tools for mechanical and hard surface sculpting.   This non-specific doo-hicky is realy just a holding model for testing them on different surfaces in different ways, and can be said to be the basis and test bed for some serious up and coming MECHyness.   Also usefull in this sculpt was learning Edgeloops, Grouploops, adanced Masking and some remesh here and there to pull back some of the more unstable forms.

Speed Sculpt - 009 - 'Ulysees Pistol' - Hardsurface - Shadowbox/Trim tests

This is the final one for now - used a few of the custom stamps I made last week, during my quiet period, some screws and details, also used a few masked groups to cut some extra detail into the surface.

Speed Sculpt - 009 27-07-11 - 'Ulysses Pistol' - Hardsurface - Shadowbox/Trim tests

This is as far as I took it on Thursday - now for an other hour or two to start refinging and detailing a little more.

This piece certainly served its purpose is getting me more familiar with the Remesh, Shadowbox and Trim tools, and much fun was had in the process.

Speed Sculpt - 009 27-07-11 - 'Ulysees Pistol'  - Hardsurface - Shadowbox/Trim tests.

As the title imples, this is a test of total creation from scratch using ShadowBox features that are then further refined using trims and cuts to get a nice decent mesh ready for some manual sculpting - heres the blockout - followed by 15 mins of trimming, although not trimmed a few subtools yet, such as a grip -

Speed Sculpt - 008 20-07-11 - Hairy/Furry - Monkey Sidekick

This is as far as I took the Monkey sculpt yesterday - still using a lot of DamStd, Inflate and Claytubes, today Ill give it a little work over with some other brushes to see If I can achieve a quick and effective Hair sculpt.

Speed Sculpt - 008 20-07-11 - Hairy/Furry - Monkey Sidekick

Used Claytubes to add in some volume for facial features and then using visibilty and edgeloops I hid the non furry parts and used claytubes to suggest the hairy parts and give me something rough to work on.   Used a little Damstandard to add in some starker facial features and Inflate to give the ears a little more roundness where I saw fit.

Speed Sculpt - 008 20-07-11 - Hairy/Furry - Monkey Sidekick

A little update after dividing and smoothing ready for some Claytubes and Dam Standard sketchwork.

Speed Sculpt - 008 20-07-11 - Hard Surface - 'Zippo'

Right, this is actually a few speed sculpts down the line from last time, mainly due to the fact that the speed sculpts I did became part of a bigger project Id like to give a little more love in terms of presentation.

Suffice to say I experimented with Remesh, Project, Edgeloops and selections as well as Shadow Box, Group loops and making a whole series of Custom Brushes and Stamps - mostly Tech and Stone brushes and stamps - I will share these and post up some examples but Id like to get back to some Speed sculpting before I sit down to do a fuller presentation of those Stages.

So - this is a littke monkey helper Im sketching out, hes the batman to the Steam Brigadier (A full sculpt Im working on currently), the main excercise here is speed, volumes and hairyness :)

Speed Sculpt - 004 Saturday/Sunday 16-17/07/11 - Hard Surface - 'Zippo'

So Ive had a little fun making some custom Zippo designs today - heres one I kind of liked - Ill post some more at a later date - specifically with a Steam-Punk slant but for now I realy want to get my daily Speed Sculpt started (thats the one I should have done today instead of playing with my Zippo basemesh).

So Mondays official Speed Sculpt - 005 -  This is going to to be a test of Zspheres and a lot of the 'bigger' more topo based tools - such as Elastic MOVE, Clip, Planar and Trims.  Basically Im intending on making my basemesh directly in ZB and taking it to completion there.

The topic, as time is ticking, is to create a 'Sci-Fi Sidekick' - something cute and techy that flies around the shoulder/head of some unnamed Space Hero - here we go....

Speed Sculpt - 004 Saturday/Sunday 16-17/07/11 - Hard Surface - 'Zippo'

K So Friday was a non-speed sculpt day due to a number of reasons - I did get this started as a base mesh though - and continued to get more anal and obsessed with detailing it on both Saturday and Sunday.

So Monday will start with some fast speed sculpts in ZB using this 'Zippo' mesh o create a series of custom designs.  After that time permitting I will endevour to make a fresh Speed-Sculpt - Im still considering the topic but atm Im thinking either an Animal such as a dog or seal, or alternatively I may make a face sculpt of a specific ethnic group to practice hitting key features.

Speed Sculpt - 004 Saturday/Sunday 16-17/07/11 - Hard Surface - 'Zippo' - the Environ map is set to screen to give an odd but to me pleasing result - rendered with MR and a custom sky sphere.

Friday - Well time is short today so I may miss my Speed-Sculpt

Friday - Well time is short today so I may miss my Speed-Sculpt, although If I do I shall make up for it with two tomorow.  Im going to use what time Im guaranteed now to make a start on something Hardsurfaced and simple yet beautifull in my eyes...

Speed Sculpt - 003 Thursday 14.07.11 - Hard Surface meets Organics

K so this is the Organic meets Hardsurface speedsculpt from yersterday - Ive nicknamed him 'Goggles - the Cyber Boy' although I think my unconscious was at work and hes come out as a cross between my old Champions Online character - 'Blue Murder' and a seven year old version of Marvels 'Cyclops' one of my alltime fav stalwarts of comics.

I didnt take the sculpt too far as I was realy just consolidating the things Id learnt from the earlier two lessons, and wanted to start to experiment with ZBrush's Polypaint options - something Ive never realy found time for before.  As it was this went into 3 hours and at that point I decided to call it a day - But I will be throwing in more Polypainting in future updates though.

'Goggles' - (the Cyber boy)

Mostly this was a rehash of previous tools and brushes, just to make myelf a little more comfortable with them, I did make some custom tools/brushes for this, a nice swirly cutting brush good for freehand carving of fine lines and designs.  Tools most used - Inflate (for face shaping, detailing, Standard and Damstd to accentuate deeper lines, Layer for the constume edges, pinch to punch those details out sharper and clay for general volume.

Thursdays - Speed Sculpt - 'Goggles' - small boy/S Hero/Cyberfied

K - so I thought today Id show my base mesh, made and prepared in 3D Studio Max - Ive added in some hard edges to reinforce the hard surfaces of the goggle and ear armour, mostly this was done using Inset rather than chamfers or extrudes as it tends to keep the topo as was without the stitching and tidying up of the other methods - IMO.  This was about 30 mins work, loosly basing the proportions on a net referenced image of a kid having fun.

Thursdays - Speed Sculpt - brief

Todays speed sculpt will be a combination of Organic and Hard surface sculpted on one mesh - Im thinking Male head ( possibly a small boy), with sci fi goggles and maybe some tech enhancements.

Speed Sculpt - Wednesday 13.07.11 - Female Head study

This is yesterdays speed sculpt - I intended on adding hair and taking the detail a little further but some aborted attempts at  hair-pieces and a change of social plans meant I had to cut this short at about 2.5 hours.

I have decided that Ill return to some of these sculpts at a later date - probably picking the most interesting of the week and then using that as a base for a monthly speed sculpt - possibly allowing myself 6 hours. The mostly disappointing attempts at hair for this SC have reinforced my need to find a fast and convenient way to create long and luxurious hair - must look into methods used and try some more of my own.

Speed-Sculpt - 002 - wed 13.07.11 - Female Head study - Cookies to those who can spot who its based on..
Brushes and tools used - ZB4 - a base head made in 3D Studio Max by myself and Inflate, Clay, Standard, Pinch, Move (lots to tweak nose and chin).

Todays Speed-Sculpts - 002.  My goal today is to achieve a reasonably realistic sculpt of a female headm if time permits hair and accessories will be included to further practice yesterdays hard surface lessons.

Just a placeholder while I polish up the real content a little...(Title)

The first of a series of Speed-sculpts in ZBrush 4 - some of which will be concepts for the characters and setting of 'The O-Men. (Body text).

Male-Bust- using primarily Trims,Clay and some rake, inflate and std/dam std.
